Proclaimed Canada's first incorporated city in 1785, Saint John was often referred to as the "Rhine of North America". It's tradition of pioneering and entrepreneurship combined with an ice free port, made the city North America's centre of commerce. Whether it was constructing the Marco Polo, the world's fastest wooden sailing ship, or rebuilding the city centre after the Great Fire of 1877, Saint John's business leaders have always risen to a challenge. It is here that entrepreneurs like Wallace Turnbull made the aviation industry possible with his invention of the variable pitch propeller and Abraham Gessner made the petroleum industry possible by extracting kerosene from crude oil. It is here that Louis B. Mayer dreamed about making his mark in Hollywood - and did. |
Today, Saint John is witnessing a rebirth and it is poised to
take its place as the centre of technological innovation in
Atlantic Canada and North America's energy hub. The City's history is best seen in the Trinity Royal Preservation Area. This spectacular area allows visitors to walk back in time to appreciate the architectural beauty of the past century. Walk any street of Trinity Royal and you could easily be walking the streets of Boston's or San Francisco's waterfronts. Trinity Royal combines residents, parks, squares and commercial structures - that are still in use today. At it's heart is Prince William Street - the first nationally designated Historic Streetscape for its wealth of historically significant buildings and recipient of the Prince of Wales Award for stewardship of heritage resources and the address for this exciting condominium project. |
